This place used to be my home away from home. I guess it’s been under new management for a while. We were worried that it would be crowded, since it was Saturday night at 8 p.m., but there were only 2 other visitors seated inside. Menu used to be electric and intriguing, with a small section that changed with seasonal specials. It would draw you back to see what new items were available. And the kitchen staff was excellent and experienced. The new menu is standard pub food, with no imagination.The waitress didn’t tell us about the specials, and the windows were so dirty, that we didn’t see them until after our food had been brought to us.$7 fried pickles - This was not a basket of fried pickle chips, but 2 skewers with 5, 1/2” slices, that were skewered sideways, battered, and fired. The batter was excellent in flavor and texture, but the slices were too thick to enjoy, and not worth the price. I’d rather have eaten at Hooters.

Will be going back. Awesome experience with some friends. Affordable rates on just about everything.

Taphouse has such a unique mark on the area - both as a venue and as a bar. The new renovation makes it feel much more accessible as a space.

Food is eh & service sucks. Their tater tots are the only good thing. The bathrooms are gross and the sound system for bands is horrible! Or the sound person is just that bad.

Was going well until the comic "comic night?" asked our group to move to another section on the grill from the stage in a snarky tone. Would have been better received if staff had walked over to paying customers and asked the same. We were clearly carrying on a conversation in a related volume. Action was 'bush league' and does not bode well for return business - ever. I am sure the SEVEN people there enjoyed the show!

This is one of the sponsor bars for the kickball league my husband and I play with. The place is big enough with a really good beer selection. However, the prices aren't that great, and even though they offer specials for the league, those aren't great specials. The food is decent.

A wonderful atmosphere super chill place with excellent space and great service and let's not forget they have great burgers.This place is very clean as well it has great little sitting areas to kick it you could probably pull off a great date here especially when it's a live jam night.

Excellent customer service and awesome food

Awesome atmosphere. First time here and they treated me like family. Food was above average for what I was expecting. Will definitely be going back!

The Norfolk Taphouse is a great place on the weekends to kickback, hang out with your friends, and listen to some real, authentic local music. Yes, it is a bar. The food is great for the size of the kitchen and the drinks are even better. I would recommend this place to any age group as long as they are open to the 'alternative' crowd. They sponsor a wide variety of entertainment from stand up comedy, poetry slams, hardcore music to rockabilly folk. It's a great atmosphere to unwind, especially if you live in the Ghent area.

Okay saturday night they have live music but with a small building the music is overwhelming. Thankfully they sell earphones for 1 dollar to help. Cover chargr is 5 a piece which is not worth it. Got the fish and chips. Really greasy

Go for the tremendous selection of brewz. Stay for the bandz. I can't say whether it's everything on tap, or the support of local bands that's got me hooked on the Taphouse. Just kidding. It's both.

As much as Ghent changes, I'm glad to see Taphouse is still good!

A great place to drink if you are young and a fan of the Ghent scene (read: hipster).

We really had a great time. There is a great variety of beers on tap. We also had the bourbon bbq pulled chicken sandwich and it was fantastic. There are books, board games, and three different areas to sit. Depending on your mood, you can sit by the bar, sit outside, or sit in an area that feels like a lounge with comfy chairs and tables.It wasn't too crowded and we didn't wait for service. If you don't know what you want they can recommend or give you a sample. I'll be going back.

I have been coming to the Taphouse for years and it has always been a really cool spot with awesome live original music. I love that the new owners cleaned the place up and have given the building the care it deserved.

Taphouse has great food, excellent selection of ice cold beer on tap, and almost nightly live entertainment. Always a treat.

The atmosphere is welcoming and the food was amazing. The staff worked together well and was overly accommodating. The beer selection was impressive and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

I remember the grungier version of Taphouse with its dimmed lights and pool table in the back. It's changed quite a bit since then, but still a good bar with lots of craft beers on tap. It can get insanely loud inside even when there's no live music. And the smoking area outside is a legit smoking area (as in, you probably don't want to sit outside if smoking bothers you at all).

It was always a cool place but the new owners have really cleaned the place up, especially the bathrooms (thanks so very much). The beers are still a good selection and the food great. Fantastic no judgement vibe and all are welcomed.

Taphouse is the best bar in Norfolk. Great food with Vegan options, great beers on tap that change with beer lovers in mind, awesome entertainment & the friendliest staff. Adelaide & Parker are doing an awesome job with this place! \m/

The new owners are awesome and are really putting in the time and effort to renovate this place, and it shows! THERE ARE CLEAN, NEW BATHROOMS! Beer lists are growing every week and I can't wait to get there for dinner one of these days.

Not too bad of a place for having a small bar. They did a good job renovating their back area. However, it can be pretty loud inside in their main area if there are a lot of people. Their burgers are good. Probably not a place I'd bring children/family to.

The Pietasters were great last night!

Had the bacon cheese burger. It was cooked just right, very tasty. The beer selection was great. Service not as much. Not bad but even if you are at a table you had to go to the bar to order.

I think that it is awesome when a bartender remembers you and what you drink even when you don't get out very often. First time we went here was on a bar tour. Now we know where to get a great Long Island Tea and listen to some bands. Even though we are a bit older than the normal crowd we feel comfortable here.

Under new ownership. They've cleaned the place up inside and out. The exterior has been redone with brick and it looks great. The pool room is empty and no longer smells like marijuana. Not sure what plans they have for as it's wasted space if they don't. Also the restrooms have been renovated and look better than they ever have. I've seen a couple of bands there as well and the ridiculous cover charges haven't been present either either time. The Taphouse is the original location in Ghent / Downtown to have micro brews starting all the way back in the early 90's and while just about everyone else does now to the beer selection is still pretty good. They really shine with the seasonal products. The one thing I haven't done yet is have a have a meal yet so I don't have anything to say regarding the menu and whether or not it's been overhauled, however I plan to do that soon. I'm happy to see the changes going into the place and hope they keep it up.

Good beer and friendly staff, this is going to be a place I'll be at for a while
